We can usually get it from one of our 12 locations, 64 NAPA Distribution Centers or our Portland vendors we pick up parts from on a daily basis.

• Wilson-EATON Day at the Drags

  The Quarter Mile…

  Have you ever tested how fast your car will go in the quarter mile? Wilson’s NAPA Auto Parts would like to invite you to our Wilson’s NAPA/Eaton Day at the Drags on Friday, September 21, 2012. The race will be held at the Woodburn Dragstrip from 9am till 5pm. We enjoy drag racing and want to spread the excitement of this “pedal to the metal” sport. It will be a great opportunity for any person who has little or no experience to take some passes down the quarter mile like all the professionals. If you race on a regular basis, want to show off your ride or get some practice before your next race, we encourage you to come teach the newcomers how it’s done.

  The Elapsed Time Breakout…

  

  The race will be bracket racing style- which means all racers will have an equal opportunity to win regardless of performance differences between vehicles. You will race side by side with your competitor and the person with the slower ET (elapsed time from the start line to the finish line) will get to leave the starting line early based on the difference between ET times. The first person to cross the finish line wins unless they have what is called a “breakout.” The term “breakout” refers to a driver going faster than the ET on their window . These times are determined by qualifying passes. The key to winning is keeping a consistent ET every pass. If only one driver breaks out and the other doesn’t red light (leave the starting line before the light goes green) or cross the center line, the driver that didn’t break out wins. If both break out, the drive with the closest ET wins.

  The Prizes…

  There will be prizes for each class. We expect to have three different classes: electronic, trans brake and foot brake. Winners will receive a trophy from each class and gain bragging rights until next year’s event. You can go to any one of our locations to sign up and pay your fee. It costs $40 per vehicle to race or $5 for spectators. All participants and spectators will receive a complimentary lunch and pop/water. Beer and wine will be available for purchase at the concessions. Please sign up in advance at one of our stores so we can get an accurate number of attendees for lunch. Your invoice from one of our Wilson’s NAPA locations will be your ticket to enter the race, so don’t lose it. If you don’t get a chance to pre-register for the event, we will accept last minute participants at the gates of the Woodburn Dragstrip.

• New Contest! Starting Line Experience At The NHRA Division Finals

  Do you want a chance to stand at the starting line while two of the top Alcohol Funny Cars compete for their last chance to win the Division 6 Title? This is a unique experience that only the track officials and teams get to witness. If you win this promotion, you will get a complimentary pair of race tickets for the NHRA Northwest Division Finals at the Woodburn Dragstrip on Sunday – September 9th, you will get to bring a guest down to the starting line (must both be 18 or older), and of course you’ll get bragging rights that you stood at the starting line between two of the top Alcohol Funny Cars during eliminations of the 2012 NHRA Northwest Division Finals.

  The NHRA Northwest Division Finals are coming to the Woodburn Dragstrip September 7th, 8th and 9th. It will be an exciting weekend to watch these teams compete head-to-head for the finals. This is one of the last chances for these race teams to qualify for the NHRA National Finals held in Pomona, California. If you like cars that can reach top speeds of 250+ MPH, you will not want to miss this race.

  Never been to a drag race before? This is a great race to get your first taste of top-level drag racing. Last time these Division NHRA racers came to Woodburn, they set track records for both times and speed! We saw dragsters as fast as 5.338 seconds in a quarter mile and speeds that reached up to 266.42 MPH. Have you ever had the hair stand up on your arms because a car passed by? It is a feeling that drag racing fans get to experience every time these top-level competitors come to town.

  Woodburn Dragstrip has been recognized as a “NHRA Track of the Year” numerous times for the Northwest. This year they are hosting two of the six races for Northwest Division 6. It is a family-operated track that aims to please all ages: they have a playground for the younger kids, bleacher seating on both sides, RV parking right next to the dragstrip (spaces are limited), special interest parking for those who want to bring their classics, and a variety of food and beverages from a handful of vendors.

• Cruise-In by the Park

  Cutsforth’s Thriftway “Cruise-In” by the Park – Canby, OR

  Saturday August 25th, 2012 9am-2pm
  

  The 18th Annual Cutsforth’s Thriftway “ Cruise In” by the Park started back in 1994 in the parking lot of Cutsforth’s Thriftway. There were 20 cars at the first Cruise-In and as of last year they had over 600 participants. Cutsforth’s Thriftway is the main sponsor of the event. The Canby Cruisers – Car Club has played host to this big charity Cruise-In since the beginning. It is a team effort between many members involved. All profits from this event are donated to selected charities.

  There will be 30 different Category Awards handed out by the end of the day. Bring some money to enter the raffle drawings, and remember all profits will go to charities. The Canby Area Chamber of Commerce will host a breakfast fundraiser, so come hungry. If you miss the breakfast, The Rotary Club of Canby will host a fundraiser BBQ for lunch. Live music will be provided by “The Jim Mesi Band” throughout the day. This is a fun-filled day for the entire family!

There will be plenty of other vendors to check out – not limited to the automobile industry. The Crusie-In is located at Wait Park in Canby, OR. It is walking distance to all of the local businesses in Downtown Canby. The historic business district of Canby recently added a movie theater to bring more entertainment to the local economy. Come check out hundreds of classic cars and finish the day off with a movie and dinner right in town.

• Sprint Boat Racing and The Field of Dreams

  

  Do you like fast cars and loud engines? How about jet propelled sprint boats that rip 90 degree corners at 60 mph? These boats are capable of 90 mph on a straightaway and can handle up to 7 G’s through a corner. Sprint boat racing is very challenging – it takes both a driver and a navigator to successfully maneuver the short quick corners. Teams are issued the course map the night before each race. Turns are numbered and must be memorized. Through hand signals the navigator keeps the driver on course.

  

  When a driver takes a turn too wide or tight, the boat has a high probability of ending up on land due to the narrow course. The race channels typically are 12-15 feet wide and only 3 feet deep. Don’t worry, these boats are equipped with NASCAR quality roll cages and have safety crews that can reach any boat in 8 seconds or less.   There are three different classes involved in sprint boat racing: Super Modified, A-400, and Super Boat. Super Modified Class is restricted to a single domestic cast iron engine, naturally aspirated, CID 367 cubic inch maximum. A-400 Class is restricted to a single cast iron engine, CID 412 cubic inch maximum, 368 cubic inch minimum with cast iron only heads. Super Boat Class has no restrictions for engines larger than 420 cubic inches. The majority of the racers use a Chevy small block V8.

  Oregon has a USSBA track in Tangent, just south of Albany. The course is called the Field of Dreams and it is commonly referred to as “Talladega” by the racers themselves. The Field of Dreams is the largest in the USSBA Racing Series Circuit allowing the racers to open up full throttle!   It’s race time!

  The 36th Annual Oldies But Goodies Race sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts is June 23-24 located at the Woodburn Dragstrip. There will be over 300 – 1975 & older vehicles. This is a great race to bring your kids, family, date or friends and impress them with the wide variety of classic cars. If you have a classic car or hot rod, there will be special interest parking available at the race. Anyone interested in racing in this event can simply show up at the gate and pay $75 to race for the weekend (cars must be 1975 and older to compete).
